An explanation of our Transport Policy

and how we base our carriage costs.

That's right...... anywhere.

We deliver to all Scottish Islands, Channel Islands, Ireland and the Isle of Man and any U.K. or European mainland destination. We go where others won't.

The goods

Windows and Doors present a problem for transportation. Because of the weight, varying sizes and especially the glass element, they are not like the usual run of the mill goods that general carriers would normally accept for groupage i.e. bulking together all types of goods for a localised delivery area. General carriers will not accept glass goods of this type for a low cost service. So what are the alternatives, not much in reality, couriers will carry these type of goods but they generally work on a collect and go policy and the cost for such a service is prohibitive. There is no alternative but to carry the goods ourselves in our own vehicles. On rare occasions we do have to use courier services but we much prefer to do it ourselves.

We are very experienced in handling Windows, Doors, Conservatories and Glass and because of our expertise we very rarely experience any problems with delivery or damage to goods. Having said that, we are not perfect and occasionally we have the odd glass breakage. Because we handle most of the transport ourselves, there is no delay in arranging a replacement should any such incident occur.

THE COST OF TRANSPORT

The cost of fuel these days is an ever increasing burden on any Company that is involved in distributing their goods across the U.K. To give an example, our 3.5 ton Mercedes Sprinter van will require two fill ups of diesel costing £70 - £80 each time to do a journey say...from Stockport to the Home Counties. Add to this a working round trip journey time of around 18 hours then you may well understand that transport costs are a big issue, we simply can't give Free delivery and Low prices.

Our policy

The pricing of our goods are based on low margins and because we have customers who collect rather than have them delivered, we can't include an element of delivery costs in our pricing as this would be unfair. We do try to be fair and realistic when we apply our transport costs. To go anywhere, even a local delivery destination will cost us maybe a couple of hours of loading/unloading and driving time plus maybe 3 or 4 litres of diesel. Our minimum delivery charge is £25 which is very reasonable considering the actual costs involved.

arranging deliveries

We arrange our deliveries in regional areas and generally will group these so that we can take an economical load to an area. Some areas seem to be more popular than others and we are frequently delivering to the following areas:-

All parts of North Wales particularly Gwynedd and Anglesey.

All the Home Counties including within the M25.

Aberdeen, Inverness and to any Highlands destination, Isle of Skye, Orkney and Shetland Isles via onward shipping company.

Glasgow and surrounding areas.

Isle of Man via local shipping company.

We will carry to any other U.K. destination but you may have to wait a short while until we get enough traffic for your area. However, urgent delivery can be arranged at cost.

We have no minimum order value.

PRE-delivery

We will telephone you a few days prior to delivery to make arrangements, we will give an approximate time of delivery and the driver may well call you on the day of delivery to give you an update. We operate a one man delivery service so please ensure there is an able bodied person available to accept delivery, some of the goods can be very heavy so it's no good asking Granny to sit in and wait, it needs to be somebody fit and able (no disrespect to Granny), but we have had instances of either a child or frail person expected to take delivery. We deliver to the nearest suitable roadside position, we do not go off road. Our drivers are very obliging and will assist where necessary with large and heavy frames but please don't ask us to carry them "round the back" or "to the shed at the back of the garden", we deliver to the nearest point only.

Just trawl the Internet and see for yourself. If you can find more than a handful of companies that will give a price online, (there's only a few that will), of those that will give a price, the cost of shipping is much higher than ours, if they will ship at all.
