Glazing units for windows and doors
A glazing unit is the glass component fitted within a window, door or other suitable frame. Depending on its construction, it may consist of two or more panes separated by sealed cavities, or incorporate specialist glass for security, privacy or acoustic purposes.
The glazing unit is separate from the surrounding frame. This means it may be possible to replace failed or damaged glass without replacing the complete window or door, provided the existing frame and glazing system remain in suitable condition.
EasyFit’s glazing units are manufactured to the dimensions and specification entered when ordering. Before purchasing, you will normally need to establish:
- The complete width and height of the unit.
- The required overall unit thickness.
- The thickness and type of glass.
- Whether safety glass is required.
- Any patterned or decorative-glass requirements.
- The appropriate performance specification.
If you are unsure which unit is required, contact EasyFit or ask a competent glazing professional to inspect and measure the existing installation.
Which glazing unit should I choose?
The correct unit depends on what you are replacing and what you need the glass to achieve.
| Your requirement | Glazing range to consider |
|---|---|
| Replace a standard misted or damaged sealed unit | Double glazed units |
| Match an existing A-rated or C-rated window | Rated double glazed units |
| Replace glazing within a compatible triple-glazed system | Triple glazed units |
| Reduce disruption from external noise | Acoustic glazing units |
| Improve resistance to impact or breakage | Security glazing units |
| Add privacy to a window or door | A suitable unit with patterned glass |
| Replace a particularly large unit | A compatible 6mm or specialist specification |
This table is a starting point rather than a technical specification. Glass thickness, safety requirements and unit construction must still be appropriate for the dimensions and installation location.
Double glazed units
EasyFit’s double glazed units should be the principal choice for customers replacing a conventional sealed unit.
The range includes:
- 4mm basic double glazed units.
- 4mm argon-filled A-rated units.
- 4mm argon-filled C-rated units.
- 6mm basic double glazed units.
- 6mm argon-filled A-rated units.
- 6mm argon-filled C-rated units.
Customers can choose the required dimensions and available options within the relevant product configurator.
This section intentionally provides only an overview. Detailed explanations of energy ratings, 4mm versus 6mm glass, sealed-unit failure and replacement measurements should remain on the dedicated double-glazed-units category page.
Triple glazed units
A triple glazed unit contains three panes of glass and two cavities. This produces a different overall construction from a standard double glazed unit.
Triple glazing cannot automatically be substituted for double glazing simply because the overall opening has the same width and height. The frame, glazing beads and surrounding system must be capable of accepting the unit’s total thickness and weight.
Use the triple glazed units category to view available specifications and configuration options.
Acoustic glazing units
Acoustic units use a specialist glass build-up intended to help reduce the transmission of external sound.
Performance depends on more than the glass alone. The glass composition, difference in pane thickness, cavity, frame, seals and installation quality can all affect the result. An acoustic unit cannot eliminate every source of noise, particularly where sound also travels through walls, vents or gaps around the frame.
Use the acoustic glazing units category where noise reduction is the primary requirement.
Security glazing units
Security units incorporate materials selected to provide greater resistance to impact or breakage than standard float glass. EasyFit’s current range includes laminated and acrylic-based options.
The correct security specification depends on the nature of the risk and installation. A domestic door panel, commercial opening and specialist high-security application may require different products.
Use the security glazing units category to review the available options or contact EasyFit for guidance.

Frequently asked questions
What is a glazing unit?
A glazing unit is the glass component installed inside a window, door or other suitable frame. It may contain multiple panes and sealed cavities or use specialist glass for thermal, acoustic, privacy or security purposes.
Is a glazing unit the same as a complete window?
No. The glazing unit is the glass assembly. A complete window also includes the frame, glazing beads, seals, hardware and opening mechanism where applicable.
Can I replace the glazing without replacing the frame?
Often, yes. If the frame remains structurally sound and the correct replacement unit is available, the glass can frequently be replaced independently. A complete window may be required where the frame or glazing system is also damaged.
What is the difference between double and triple glazing?
Double glazing normally contains two panes and one cavity. Triple glazing contains three panes and two cavities. Triple glazed units are generally thicker and heavier, so the existing frame must be compatible with the required specification.
Do acoustic glazing units completely block noise?
No glazing unit can guarantee complete soundproofing. Acoustic glass is designed to reduce sound transmission, but the final result also depends on the frame, seals, walls, ventilation and installation quality.
What type of glazing offers greater security?
Laminated and other security-focused glazing products are designed to provide greater resistance to impact or breakage than standard float glass. The appropriate product depends on the installation and required level of protection.
How do I know which unit thickness I need?
Check the full thickness and construction of the existing unit or obtain advice from a competent glazier. The new unit must be compatible with the frame, glazing beads and available glazing space.
Are EasyFit glazing units made to measure?
Yes. The glazing units are manufactured according to the dimensions and options submitted through the relevant product configurator. Measurements should be checked carefully before ordering.
